Leaking Basement from Cracks in Your Floor and
Walls
The best way to assure preventing a leaking basement is to do everything you can before you begin construction
of your house. Properly seal the basement cement walls from the outside before you backfill the dirt around your
house. Allow the back filled area to settle for a couple of weeks after the construction is completed before you
start seeding or sodding your yard.
If you are dealing with an older home and you find that
you start developing water leaking into your basement you need to stop the leaks as soon as possible. Most
homes that were built 15 to 20 years ago will start developing water leaks in the basement if they were not properly addressed when they were
built. Some homes just develop water leaks as a result of unusually heavy rains or just normal wear and tear
over the years.
If your leaking basement needs the walls and
floor cracks repaired, do that as quickly as
you can. Then waterproof the walls and
floors with products that you mix powders with the cement paint or purchase cement paint that already has the
waterproof powders already mixed. These products you can investigate by going to your internet and search the
companies that have web sites addressing the solutions to repair your situation.
This waterproofing will need to be done before you proceed to do anything else. The cost you will pay to correct
or avoid the leaking basement will be the best thing you can do. If you wait, you might take the risk of having to
replace your basement walls totally.
